We are happy to announce that FIRESafe MARIN, with Measure C funding from the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority, will conduct a curbside pickup chipper program in many areas throughout Marin in 2021.

We are conducting a curbside pickup chipper program to select areas throughout the County on a rotating basis during the year. Please note; piles are required to be ready at the curb by 8am Monday and will be picked up by Friday of the same week.

Program Details & Preparation

Reservations are given on a first come first served basis. When capacity is reached, registrants will be placed on a wait list. Waitlisted reservations will not receive a pickup. If space opens, those reservations may be added and residents will receive a confirmation email indicated they have been moved off of the waitlist. As a reminder, pickup may be delayed until Friday due to volume.

Rules to Follow


Material in excess of 8” in diameter cannot be chipped.  Suggested pile size is 10 feet x 4 feet x 4 feet. With one extra registration step, a resident can request the removal of piles longer than 15 feet. 


Piles with unpermitted items or any portion of a pile greater than 10x4x4 feet that has not been pre-approved for removal may be left behind and will become the resident’s responsibility to remove.


Your pile must be within 5’ of a place where the truck can access the pile and turn around on a road.  Do not place piles where they are blocking a roadway or driveway or within 10 feet of a utility pole or fire hydrant. 

Please do not bag or tie up your vegetation.

Pile Size & Placement

Lay all vegetation in your 10'x4'x4' pile the same way with the base of the branch or plant facing toward the street (so that it can be easily picked up and placed in the chipper) at the curb by 8am Monday morning of the week of your event.  Preferably piles should be on the uphill side of the drive or road if there is a slope.

Frequently Asked Questions

What CAN go in the chipper?
  • Tree limbs up to 8” in diameter.

  • Shrubs, brush, limbs, woody bushes, broom, cypress, juniper, firewood, etc.

What will NOT be taken for the safety of our crews?
  • Trash, poison oak, blackberry brambles, construction materials, lumber, regular yard waste, leaves, lawn clippings, bamboo roots, roots with dirt, rocks, or gravel

  • Bagged or tied material of any kind

What WILL be taken but can't be put in the chipper?

  • Palm fronds, bamboo, pampas grass - place next to pile


This program is in high demand, if you do not have a pile ready please try to cancel as this lets us move one of your neighbors off the waitlist.
