Rules to Follow

Material in excess of 6” in diameter or 10’ in length cannot be chipped.  Piles with unpermitted items or in excess of maximum pile size of 10' deep by 5’ tall and 5’ wide may not be picked up - you are responsible for disposal of excess materials.

Your pile must be within 5’ of a place where the truck can access the pile and turn around on a paved road.  Do not place piles where they are blocking a roadway or driveway or within 10” of a utility pole.  Piles should be in place 7:30 AM on pick up day.

Please do not bag or tie up your vegetation.

Whenever possible, chipped material will be blown back on the property in a place that the crew deems is practical and safe or, if directions have been provided by the landowner, left in a pile.  Landowners will be responsible for spreading out any pile of chips.

If you wish to include any invasive plants such as broom or gorse in your pile please contact the MCFSC to determine if we will be able to accommodate their disposal in your location.

Pile Size & Placement

Lay all vegetation in your 10'x5'x5' pile the same way with the base of the branch or plant facing toward the street (so that it can be easily picked up and placed in the chipper) on the day of your chipper event.  Piles should be near the road or drive, accessible to the crew and not on a steep slope.

Frequently Asked Questions

What CAN go in the chipper?
  • Tree limbs up to 6” in diameter.

  • Shrubs, brush, limbs, woody bushes, pampas grass, scotch broom, cypress, juniper, bamboo, etc.

Can I include invasive species like French, English or Scotch broom or gorse in my chipper piles?
  • Those materials can only be included in piles when all of the material in an entire day’s schedule is being chipped into a truck to haul for green waste disposal.  Please contact the MCFSC to see if that is possible for your location before including them in your chipper piles.

What will NOT be taken for the safety of our crews?
  • Trash, rocks/dirt/mud, poison oak, stumps, roots, oleander, spiny plants/vines, blackberry brambles, firewood, construction materials, lumber, regular yard waste, leaves, lawn clippings.

How many piles can I have chipped?
  • The system default is for one pile per location.  If you will have multiple piles please put that in the notes when you makes your reservation AND call us at 707-462-3662 too so that we can see if there are multiple reservations we can make to accommodate your additional piles.
